The Car-Hauler Shop East Dundee Operators Make The Run For

Eighty-three miles from the IAA yard on Healy Road — I-90 east to I-355 south, I-80 to I-94, off at Torrence Avenue. Hydraulics, cylinders, fifth wheels and bushings, with the parts already on the shelf: same day in most cases, next day at the latest. If the truck won't move, we come to you — about an hour and forty out to East Dundee.

Down In East Dundee Right Now?

Call 224-278-9872 and tell us what the truck is doing and where it's sitting — the Healy Road yard, the lot off Route 25, a shoulder on I-90. If it still rolls, you're eighty-three miles out and we'll have the part pulled before you get here. If it doesn't, we load the truck and come to you — about an hour and forty. Either way you hear the plan on the phone, because at that distance a wrong guess costs a day, and a day parked is freight you didn't move and a Wednesday load-out you missed.

Getting Here From East Dundee

Eighty-three miles is a real drive, so here's exactly what it looks like — the run down, where East Dundee haulers are usually coming from, and what happens when you pull into the yard.

Empty black and white car carrier trailer attached to a truck outside warehouse with open garage doors.
IL-25 or Higgins Road to I-90 east, then I-355 south, I-80 east into I-94, and off at Torrence Avenue — north to E 139th Street in Burnham. Eighty-three miles, about an hour and forty. It's longer on paper than cutting down I-294 and it costs you the tolls, but it keeps a loaded deck out of the worst of the traffic, and on this run the clock matters more than the map. Interstate the whole way, no tight turns at either end.
The IAA Chicago-North yard at 605 Healy Road is why most of these calls come in. The sale runs every Wednesday at 9:30 with preview the day before, so the week has a shape to it: units come off the block and have to be loaded out on a clock. Healy itself still isn't signed — it's the road along the west edge of the forest preserve off Higgins, and if you've reached Commonwealth Drive you've gone past it. Two miles south, the truck park off Route 25 at Route 72 holds a few thousand trucks and trailers, and that's where a lot of you sit between loads. There are shops up there. What there isn't is one that keeps hydraulic cylinders, fifth-wheel components and deck bushings on the shelf.
Ask for Alex. He ran car haulers for about ten years before he ran this shop, so you can describe what the deck is doing in your own words — English, Russian, or Spanish — without translating it into generic truck problems first. You get a diagnosis and a price before anyone touches the truck, not after. The lot is gated with 24/7 video surveillance and big enough to turn a loaded hauler around, so if the work carries into the morning, the truck and the units on it sit behind the gate overnight.

What East Dundee Operators Bring Us

Most of it is the specialty work — hydraulics, cylinders, fifth wheels, bushings, deck and electrical faults that generalist shops guess at. But at eighty-three miles, one trip should clear the whole list: brakes, tires, suspension, diagnostics and emissions, aftertreatment, A/C, welding and PM all run through the same shop. One stop, one shop, no hauling the fleet around to three different places.

Car-Hauler Repair

Deck, hydraulics, fifth wheel, ramps and everything else that makes a hauler a hauler — the work most shops send you away for.

Hydraulics & Cylinders

Leaking, drifting or dead cylinders, hoses and lines rebuilt or replaced with the parts already on the shelf.

Fifth Wheels

Repair, repositioning and replacement — the wear that gets missed until it becomes a problem on the highway.

Electrical

Lights, wiring, alternators and starters traced back to the actual fault instead of parts thrown at it.

Diagnostics & Emissions Testing

Codes read and traced to what's actually causing them, plus OBD and CARB testing when it's time.

Aftertreatment

Forced regens, DEF dosing valves and aftertreatment faults sorted before the truck derates on you.

Oil Changes & PM

Scheduled service with a real inspection attached, so small things get caught while the truck is already stopped.

Brakes

Pads, shoes, drums, air system and adjustment — inspected honestly and replaced only where it's warranted.

Suspension

Air bags, shocks, bushings and pins on tractor and trailer, so the load rides right and nothing wears out early.

Welding

Cracks, mounts, brackets and deck structure repaired in-house instead of farmed out to another shop.

Why East Dundee Haulers Make The Drive

Because closer isn't the same as capable. Passing twenty shops that can do brakes doesn't help when the deck won't lift — that job needs someone who has run this equipment and has the cylinder, the hose and the bushing already on the shelf. That's the whole difference between same day in most cases, next day at the latest and sitting through a parts order while next Wednesday's units go to somebody else's truck.

The Operators Who Already Made The Drive

None of these came from East Dundee. They came from operators who had a closer shop and drove past it anyway — some rolled in, some we went out and got.
